Katherine R. Myers

Katherine R. Myers is a prosecutor turned defense attorney. Katherine opened her own firm in order to have the freedom to practice the areas of law she has always been passionate about, provide employment opportunities for others and be closer to home.

As a prosecutor, Katherine handled a range of criminal cases with an emphasis on fighting for victims of domestic violence. Prior to her work as a prosecutor, Katherine worked for the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation as the Assistant Labor Counsel for OSHA and as the lead Whistleblower investigator.  She began her law career as a clerk for Justice Donald Beatty, the current Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court.

A University of South Carolina Law School graduate, Katherine served as the president of the Black Law Student Association, as a Student Ambassador and as a member of the Moot Court team and winner of the school competition. She is also the recipient of the South Carolina Young Lawyers President’s Award, Top 20 under 40 for the South Carolina Black Pages and a recipient of the Living the Legacy Award from the National Association of Colored Women.

Katherine is a Columbia native and a proud C.A. Johnson High School graduate and  a Cum Laude graduate of Furman University, with a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science.

Katherine became a lawyer because of her interests in the Civil Rights movement. “It represents an intense period in our country's history that was assuaged, in many ways, through the actions of lawyers and politicians who brought issues to the courtrooms and congress in order to change old laws and establish new ones that allowed women and people of color full citizenship rights."
